"Love in New York", a short story by Hong Kong novelist Wong Pik-wan, was set in New York, but the atmosphere barely seems American to me. The characters are totally unrelated to American backgrounds, as if they all live in a sealed vacuum. As I venture into Wong's fictional world, I found that I cannot fully immerse myself into it, though I think I understand her. The recurring imagery of red and blood must be about separation, loss, exile or death. Text in this work comes from "Love in New York" by Wong Pik-wan.
