他們說，國旗的顏色象徵不同價值。紅、白、藍三色象徵七種價值，星星代表各州份的獨立特質。我倒看不出那過度簡化字詞的實質所指，繁星又好比市巷裡的人們，應該不只五十個。美國國旗在華人社會出現時，被稱為「花旗」。原紐約城市銀行的Citibank，中文譯名「花旗銀行」其實滿有歷史色彩，可美國人從不知曉。

It was
said that red, white and blue in the Flag of the United States of
America symbolise seven virtues, while the stars represent
independent qualities of each state. I cannot see what exactly are
signified in those simple wordings. The stars look like people in a
big city, but if so then there should be more than 50. The flag was
called the "Flower Flag" when it first appeared in Chinese society.
The formal Chinese name of Citibank, formerly known as City Bank of
New York, means "Bank of the Flower Flag". This translation, rich is
history, however, is almost unknown in the United States.
